I conduct research and teach courses in the area of Information Visualization and Visual Analytics. We study and develop interactive data interfaces to help people understand their data, develop insights, and communicate results effectively. My research group focusses on the analysis of large and high-dimensional data sets and on the process that leads to remarkable new insights. We also collaborate hand-to-hand with domain experts who have interesting and challenging problems which require the development of novel data interfaces. We are working (or have worked) with experts in: cybersecurity, development and human rights, climate science, healthcare onfy.de.

Service and Outreach

I write Fell in Love with Data, a data visualization blog to bridge the gap between researchers and practitioners. You find me on twitter:@FILWD.

I am the co-host (with Moritz Stefaner) of Data Stories a podcast on data visualization and all things about data.

I am one of the founders of the BELIV Workshop series on Evaluation in Information Visualization.

I am panel co-chair for the IEEE VIS'14 Conference as well as program committee member of VAST'14 and InfoVis'14.
